Eastern Star Masonic Pilgrimage

This trip will be limited to the first 40 people who make reservations. There will not be a second bus. This will ensure that we have plenty of space on the motor coach. It will also facilitate quicker stops for meals along as we travel.

Day 1 – Sunday, May 22 We begin our pilgrimage this morning as we depart Altoona Iowa. Sit back and relax and get to know your traveling companions as we travel across Illinois and Indiana on our way to our first overnight stay in Dayton, Ohio.

Day 2 – Monday, May 23 After breakfast, we continue East across the remainder of Ohio and into Pennsylvania. We pass by Pittsburg as we head into the Alleghany Mountains on our way to the “City of Brotherly Love” Philadelphia. Our home this evening is the Crowne Plaza hotel just across the river from Philly. (B)

Day 3 – Tuesday, May 24 This morning, we will visit the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia. Built in 1873, the temple is on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. A guide will show us the Temple and the Museum which contains Washington’s apron as well many other treasures. After our tour, we depart Philly, and head south to Washington D.C. This afternoon, we have arranged a guided tour of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial in Arlington Virginia. This 333 foot tall structure has 9 floors of exhibits, including the replica room which contains the original furnishings of Alexandria Lodge #22, the lodge over which Washington was the first WM. We then check into the Westin Gateway Hotel in Arlington for the next 2 nights. (B)

Day 4 – Wednesday, May 25 This morning after breakfast, we head into the city for a tour of the International Headquarters of The Order of the Eastern Star. The Belmont is the largest private residence in the District. Although there are no ceremonial spaces in the building, it serves as the World Headquarters of the International Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. This afternoon, you are free to visit the Smithsonian Institution. Check out the Air and Space Museum, or the Museum of American History, or the Museum of Natural History, and see the Hope Diamond the choice is yours. This evening, we will visit some of the many monuments around the city before returning to our hotel. (B)

Day 5- Thursday, May 26 Regretfully, we depart Washington D.C. and North and West into the mountains of Pennsylvania. Sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery as we make our way to our last overnight stay in Dayton. This evening, a farewell dinner has been planned for you. (B,D) Day 6 – Friday, May 27 Homeward bound! We travel the remainder of Ohio, cross Illinois, as we make our way to Altoona and home with fond memories of our Masonic Pilgrimage to D.C. ,/p> (B) B=Breakfast D=Dinner
